About The Position

Great Hearts Academies is seeking a life-long learner passionate about shaping students’ hearts and minds to support its classical liberal arts education program. The role is based at Great Hearts Arlington Lower School in Arlington, Texas.

As a K–5 Teaching Assistant, you support the lead teacher in implementing a rich Core Knowledge curriculum; a bachelor’s degree is not required. As an Apprentice Teacher, you function as a second teacher in the classroom without carrying the full responsibilities of planning, grading or evaluation, and parent communications. Through mentorship with a Master Teacher, you learn the craft of teaching in a classical, liberal arts primary-school environment. Many Apprentice Teachers become lead teachers at lower or upper schools, assuming they have a bachelor’s degree.

The position is full-time and hourly. Local travel may be needed for training and professional development. Employment is contingent upon a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements, and US work authorization is required.

Requirements

• US work authorization is required.
• Successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.
• Some locations, such as Title I schools, may require assistant teachers to have an associate degree, 60 hours of college credit, or the ability to pass a ParaPro proficiency exam before beginning work.
