About The Position

The 5th Grade Science Teacher will teach students in a manner that they can apply the knowledge and skill required for College and Career Readiness in accordance with the Mississippi Framework and Common Core Curriculum. This role involves instructing students in various subjects, developing lesson plans, and creating an effective learning environment. The teacher will also be responsible for evaluating student growth, communicating with parents, and participating in professional development and school activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Possession of (or eligible for) a valid regular Mississippi teaching certificate in vacant area.

Responsibilities

• Teach students in accordance with the Mississippi Framework and Common Core Curriculum.
• Implement strategies outlined by the district.
• Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter.
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials.
• Provide individualized and small group instruction.
• Use a variety of instruction strategies.
• Translate lesson plans into learning experiences.
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior.
• Evaluate students’ academic and social growth.
• Keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
• Communicate with parents about students’ progress.
• Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff.
• Create an effective learning environment.
• Maintain professional competence through in-service education and professional growth activities.
• Participate in the development of the teacher evaluation method.
• Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities and on field lessons.
• Administer group standardized tests.
• Participate in Professional Learning Communities, faculty committees, and sponsor student activities.
• Use student data to guide instruction and professional development.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
