Anticipated 5th Grade Math and Science Teacher
About The Position
The South Portland School Department is seeking a dynamic math and science teacher to work with our 5th grade students at South Portland Middle School. South Portland Middle School is a 5th-8th grade school that opened in Fall of 2023. The school utilizes an inquiry-based approach supported by Open SciEd for science and the Desmos math curriculum. Teachers collaborate to develop proficiency-based, culturally relevant instructional plans. All Math/Science teachers are part of a teaching team with Humanities teachers. The successful candidate will have experience working with racially, linguistically, and economically diverse youth and their families. Flexibility, desire, and enthusiasm to work with middle schoolers are required.
Requirements
- K-6 or K-8 teaching certification required.
- Experience working with racially, linguistically, and economically diverse youth and their families.
- Flexibility, desire, and enthusiasm to work with middle schoolers.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with PBIS.
- Experience with restorative justice practices.
- Experience with MTSS.
Responsibilities
- Work with 5th grade students in math and science.
