About The Position

Voyager Academy is a fully accredited K-12 charter school located in Durham, NC where students participate in deep learning through authentic project based learning experiences. Our faculty and staff collaboratively strive to inspire life-long learning and lead by modeling our core values of confidence, empathy, curiosity, reflection, and integrity. We are currently seeking a 5th Grade English and Language Arts Teacher to join our Middle School Team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts/Science in Education or field of instruction
  • NC Certification/license

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and implement the prepared instructional program to assist students in mastering the North Carolina objectives.
  • Work with the grade level team to coordinate projects that help promote the Project Based Learning model.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity of the students.
  • Develop lesson plans for the classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, to meet the needs and capabilities of the students involved.
  • Follow the NC Standard Course of Study and teach the standards.
  • Strive to implement by instruction and action the school’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Seek assistance from the EC Teachers and Facilitator as required.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law and administrative regulation.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Develop classroom behavior expectations and procedures and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for paraprofessionals and volunteers.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
