About The Position

St. Clare of Assisi–St. Francis Xavier School, a Catholic elementary school serving students in Pre-K through Grade 8 in the Bronx, is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic educator to serve as a fifth-grade homeroom teacher and science teacher for Grades 5–8 for the 2026–2027 school year. The successful candidate will create a structured, engaging, and supportive classroom environment; provide standards-aligned science instruction; and help students develop scientific knowledge, inquiry skills, critical thinking, and curiosity about the world around them.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Strong classroom-management, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to design engaging lessons for students with diverse academic and language needs
  • Commitment to academic excellence, student well-being, professional collaboration, and Catholic education

Nice To Haves

  • New York State teacher certification preferred
  • Experience teaching upper-elementary or middle-school students preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serving as the fifth-grade homeroom teacher and supporting students' academic, social, and emotional growth
  • Teaching science to students in Grades 5–8
  • Planning and delivering engaging, standards-aligned lessons
  • Incorporating hands-on investigations, laboratory activities, scientific inquiry, and real-world applications
  • Using assessment data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction
  • Providing appropriate scaffolds and differentiation for students with varying learning needs, including multilingual learners
  • Maintaining clear classroom routines and high expectations for learning and behavior
  • Communicating regularly and professionally with families
  • Collaborating with colleagues, school leadership, and student-support personnel
  • Participating fully in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and the faith life of the school
  • Supporting the Catholic identity, values, and mission of the school
