About The Position

The Section 504 Program Manager is responsible for coordinating, training, monitoring, and implementing the district’s compliance with its legal responsibilities under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. This role ensures adherence to all required procedures and procedural safeguards under Section 504, supports equitable access for students with disabilities, and promotes consistent implementation of Section 504 processes across all district schools.

Requirements

  • Understanding of Section 504 regulations and legal responsibilities.
  • Basic understanding of Special Education processes and procedures.
  • Ability to collect and interpret data.
  • Skilled in working with computer platforms, including but not limited to, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Forms, OneNote, OneDrive, Word, Stream, PowerBI and Canva.
  • Skilled in working in collaborative team-based environments.
  • Skilled in working with, and presenting to, diverse populations.
  • Exercise good judgement in decision-making, especially under difficult and stressful circumstances.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to problem-solve and work autonomously with self-direction.
  • Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance.
  • Knowledge of district’s mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them.
  • Contact with personnel within the district, students and families, agencies and case managers, and other parties as necessary.
  • Will be working under the direct supervision of the Director of Health, Homebound & Section 504 Services.
  • Will be working with a diverse population, requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.
  • In order for schools to operate effectively, employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday, unless the employee has received approved leave.
  • Any deviation from typical hours must have prior approval from the department supervisor.
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of WPS and is appropriate for their position.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field from an accredited university required
  • At least 3 years of experience working in public education
  • Experience with computer-based documentation systems (Synergy)

Responsibilities

  • Review, revise, and develop policies and procedures for District Section 504 processes
  • Ensure the District's nondiscrimination statements, Child Find information, grievance procedures, and other disability-related policies are up-to-date, posted, and distributed as required
  • Ensure staff understand their responsibilities under Section 504
  • Ensure policies are applied consistently across the District at each building
  • Provide support and guidance to building 504 Teams, school staff, and administrators
  • Develop and provide professional development opportunities, training, and resources materials for District staff
  • Collect, maintain, and analyze 504 data
  • Develop monthly Student Support Newsletter submissions with relevant 504 related content
  • Maintain and update the Section 504 webpage for the public and staff
