About The Position

Bismarck Public Schools is seeking a dedicated 4th Grade Teacher for Murphy Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year, starting August 14th, 2026. This role is ideal for an educator passionate about making a difference in students' lives and contributing to a strong educational team. The position involves a 187-day teaching contract, with New Teacher Orientation held on August 11th, 12th, and 13th. External candidates can have up to 17 years of contracted K-12 teaching experience recognized. Applicants will be required to complete the EPI Candidate Assessment, for which an email prompt will be sent. This assessment takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour and only needs to be completed once.

Requirements

  • A valid ND teaching certificate
  • Bachelor's degree

Responsibilities

  • Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff, and community.
  • Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and the emotional development of children.
  • Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.
  • Plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students.
  • Monitors and evaluates student outcomes.
  • Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings.
  • Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices.
  • Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Daily lesson plans are essential to an organized, effective teaching situation. Plans must be complete enough so that a substitute teacher can take over the class if necessary.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated by the immediate supervisor.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom and on the campus in a fair and just manner.
  • Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with other staff members.
  • Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning complying with Bismarck Public Schools' professional growth program.
