About The Position

St. Pius X Catholic School is seeking a qualified, experienced and passionate educator who is deeply committed to developing Christ-centered, forward-thinking leaders to serve our future Church and our world. St. Pius X Catholic School is a parish school located in Chula Vista, California. The school's mission is to inspire and support students to develop to their fullest potential and share a meaningful bond with others in the school community, all working to “restore all things in Christ.” This is a long-term substitute position for a 4th-grade teacher, running from November 2026 to approximately March 31, 2027.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree
  • Successful experience in student teaching or classroom teaching
  • Positive references and recommendations
  • A Clear criminal background check
  • A basic understanding and acceptance of Catholic School philosophy, goals, and objectives
  • Understanding of child development and skills necessary to relate to the students
  • Appropriate control and discipline techniques, which will enhance the learning environment

Nice To Haves

  • Active, practicing Roman Catholic
  • Basic Catechetical Certification
  • A single subject or multi subject credential

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans aligned to the Common Core and California State standards as well as the Diocese of San Diego Religion Standards
  • Establish a positive classroom culture and maintain strong classroom management to maximize instructional time
  • Differentiate classroom instruction to meet the needs of all learners
  • Regularly collect and analyze data to inform and adjust instruction
  • Skillfully use technology to accomplish learning goals and increase student engagement
  • Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, prepare progress reports and report cards (grades)
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians on student progress
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices throughout the school and share best practices
  • Actively participate in ongoing professional development
  • Return voice-mail/e-mail messages in a timely manner
  • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom
  • Demonstrate a respectful demeanor with staff, students, and parents
  • Observe utmost confidentiality regarding parent, student, staff information/conversations
  • Supervise playground and other areas of duty as the role may require
  • Other duties as assigned
