About The Position

The purpose of this position is to provide an engaging, enriching, and high-quality educational experience for students. This is a full-time role reporting to the Principal at an assigned campus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Certification or ability to gain certification as a Teacher in instructional area
  • Experience creating and successfully managing a classroom environment

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in education or related field
  • Certification in multiple instructional areas
  • Experience in and/or understanding of the public school system including charter schools

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate Knowledge of Content and Pedagogy: Create lesson and unit plans that support instructional outcomes, reflect important concepts, and accommodate prerequisite relationships. Provide clear explanations, accurate answers, and feedback that furthers learning. Collaborate with colleagues for interdisciplinary connections. Ensure educational outcomes are challenging, central to the discipline, allow student choice, use varied resources, plan learning groups, and are interdisciplinary. Ensure alignment of outcomes, activities, and skills. Ensure assessments adequately measure student mastery. Plan and implement instructional outcomes that allow differentiation for varied abilities. Implement French and Louisiana State Standards lesson planning and common assessment. Collaborate with teachers and staff, participate in PLCs and 'conseils de cycle'. Respond promptly to inquiries from families, teachers, and administrators. Comply with French accredited program expectations, accommodations for students with exceptionalities, and LDOE teacher evaluation system requirements.
  • Create an Environment of Respect and Rapport: Encourage and model respectful talk, active listening, and turn-taking. Acknowledge students’ backgrounds and lives outside the classroom. Exhibit warmth and caring through body language. Encourage and model politeness and support for all community members. Encourage and model fairness in all interactions.
  • Establish a Culture for Learning: Encourage high expectations for learning and participation. Recognize effort and persistence. Create a culture that promotes high expectations for expression and work products. Establish smooth functioning classroom routines with minimal loss of instructional time. Create classroom routines where students play an important role.
  • Utilize Effective Instructional Strategies: Create learning tasks and pose questions of high cognitive challenge formulated by both students and the teacher. Create and pose questions with multiple correct answers or approaches. Plan, prepare, and deliver effectively paced lessons aligned with state standards and school curriculum. Differentiate instruction for diverse learners, including students with IEPs or 504 plans. Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor and improve student performance. Effectively utilize student responses and ideas. Facilitate and encourage high levels of student participation in student-led discussions. Encourage and support student enthusiasm, interest, thinking, and problem-solving. Create an environment where students are actively working. Gather and use evidence of student understanding to inform instruction and remediation. Assist students in assessing their own work against established criteria.
  • Display Professionalism and Commitment to the Audubon Community: Reflect and refine instruction based on feedback. Create systems and routines to track student metrics for academic and socio-emotional outcomes. Maintain accurate documentation of student progress. Comply with grading guidance and procedures. Respect timelines for grade input. Maintain regular and effective communication with families. Regularly work with colleagues to share and plan for student success. Participate in professional development opportunities. Regularly participate in or initiate school activities. Comply with all school policies and procedures.
  • Other Duties as Assigned: Perform additional tasks as assigned by the principal or other supervisors, including supporting after-school activities, assisting with school-wide events, providing coverage for other staff, and contributing to a safe and clean school environment.
