About The Position

This position is for a 4th/5th Grade Elementary Teacher for the 2026-2027 School Year, which runs from August 2026 to May 2027. The teacher will be responsible for creating an age-appropriate, loving, safe, and engaging atmosphere for students, aligning lessons with the TEKS set forth by the Texas Board of Education. Effective communication with parents and maintaining a positive classroom environment are key aspects of this role. The teacher must be knowledgeable in the subjects being taught and implement effective classroom management and strategies for developing independent learners, including the use of technology.

Requirements

  • College degree
  • Valid teaching certificate from the state of Texas (or ability to obtain within a grace period if certified in another state)
  • Demonstrate competency, good judgment, and self-control in the presence of children and when performing assigned responsibilities.
  • Relate to children with courtesy, respect, acceptance, and patience.
  • Recognize and respect the uniqueness and potential of all children, their families, and their cultures.
  • Be present to all monthly staff meetings for the entire school year.

Responsibilities

  • Create age-appropriate lessons, problem-based learning, student team building, and hands-on experiences based on TEKS.
  • Provide a loving, safe, and engaging atmosphere for students.
  • Communicate effectively with parents through Classdojo, email, and in person regarding student progress and addressing questions.
  • Maintain a positive classroom environment by speaking life over kids, redirecting undesired behavior, and training kids to walk in their fullness.
  • Be prepared and knowledgeable in the area of topic being taught.
  • Plan and prepare for each subject being taught before 8:15 AM each day.
  • Greet each student at their door ready at 8:25 AM.
  • Plan and implement classroom management practices.
  • Implement strategies to develop independent learners.
  • Provide opportunities for students to use current technology and follow all protocols and guidelines for safe technology use.
  • Submit all receipts, incident reports, training hours, supply requests, and spending for class budget to the administrative assistant.
  • Oversee monthly classroom budget and stay within budget.
  • Maintain a professional work environment by adhering to the dress code, arriving on time or early, communicating with directors, and following their instructions.
  • Care for all students by ensuring physical and emotional needs are met.
  • Be aware of all student allergies and care for students accordingly.
  • Be aware of permissions for sunscreen, bug spray, and media release documents for each student.
  • Leave the room tidy at the end of the day and ensure all surfaces have been sanitized.
  • Be a team player to help UPPERROOM Academy achieve greatness.
  • Ensure that no child is abused, neglected, or exploited while in the care of the center.
  • Report suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation to DFPS as specified in the Texas Family Code, §261.101.
