About The Position

The temporary 4-H/Nutrition Educator leads fun, hands on programs in schools, after school programs, and other community-based locations, helping youth explore healthy living, nutrition and cooking, STEAM, environmental awareness, natural resources, agriculture, animal science, and garden based learning. As part of the 4-H team, the Educator helps recruit participants, supports evolving program needs, and assists with data entry and reporting. The role also includes delivering engaging youth and family nutrition education - often with cooking instruction or demonstrations - to inspire healthier choices and lifelong skills. This position delivers programs throughout the communities of Columbia & Greene Counties.

Requirements

Associate's degree in related field. High school diploma/GED equivalent and 1-year related experience may substitute for an associate’s degree.
Experience relevant to the role of the position.
Ability to help maintain a welcoming environment for all.
Ability to meet the frequent travel requirements associated with this position.
A valid NYS driver's license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.
Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
Ability to deliver and organize assigned programs.
Ability to communicate and relate effectively with others.
Microsoft Office Suite, program software, virtual meetings.

Responsibilities

Teach existing youth-based educational programs.
Teach existing nutrition-based educational programs and cooking demonstrations.
Present as a positive role model for youth participants and families.
Serve as a subject matter resource and provide standard responses.
Provide participants and volunteers with related educational resources.
Foster acceptance of the program by maintaining good working relationships with partner organizations and others to further enhance the program.
Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the public, community leaders, government officials and Cornell University in a professional manner.
May assist in creation of lesson plans to deliver educational programs.
May assist in multidisciplinary team efforts to deliver programs.
Assist in evaluating the program and making recommendations for improvements.
Assist with other programs as assigned.
Immediately reports unique and/or emergency situations to supervisors.
Assist in solving problems and resolving conflicts that arise, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures.
Coordinate assigned projects, programs, trainings, events, and meetings.
Attend district and state 4-H events; transport and chaperone youth.
Performs 4-H data (data entry, enrollments, reporting, etc.).
Recruit program participants.
Effectively collaborate with, develop, and maintain professional relationships with partner organizations and others.
May assist in the development of marketing or other materials.
Assist supervisor with public awareness by drafting impact statements, social media posts, web updates, articles for progress/ annual reports, or news releases.
Complete and submit all required reports, records, and documentation (e.g., program data, evaluation data, incident reports, expense reports, etc.) in a timely manner.
Maintain confidentiality of information regarding all program participants.
In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
Aware of, and adheres to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Columbia & Greene Counties policies, procedures and Cornell Cooperative Extension Skills for Success.
Contribute to the overall success of the organization by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely and accurate manner.
