About The Position

This position serves as the 4-H Camp Wabasso Program Director for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County, working under the direction of the Youth and Family Development Issue Leader. The role is responsible for the overall management of 4-H Camp Wabasso, which includes a summer residential youth camp season, day programs, and overnight programs in environmental education and leadership training during shoulder seasons. Key responsibilities involve managing and promoting camp facilities, preparing for the summer season, marketing, fundraising, grant writing, training and supervising seasonal and shoulder-season staff, scheduling, delivering 4-H educational programs using research-based materials, maintaining accreditation, and general facility supervision. The Camp Director will reside on-site in a private cabin during periods of overnight staff or youth residence. The position is also tasked with enhancing 4-H Programs, resources, and collaborations, implementing innovative 4-H programming aligned with strategic plans, maintaining ACA accreditation, and ensuring compliance with Department of Health standards. Direct supervision includes Camp Maintenance, Administrative Assistant, temporary program positions, and summer residential camp staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 24 weeks of camp administration experience or 24 weeks of relevant administrative experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Influence the creation of program materials to address the needs of youth participants.
  • Develop all programming at 4-H Camp Wabasso using 4-H research-based curricula.
  • Create innovative lesson plans in all assigned areas of programming responsibility.
  • Teach innovative, developmentally appropriate 4-H programming.
  • Occasionally teach existing 4-H youth development programs as designed.
  • Utilize mass media, including social media, for program delivery.
  • Foster acceptance of the 4-H Youth Development Program.
  • Serve as a team member and cooperate with Association and 4-H Youth Development Program staff.
  • Implement program evaluation as designed.
  • Interact with program participants to obtain evaluation data.
  • Analyze program data and assist in making improvements.
  • Interpret evaluation data to constituents.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough evaluation process for 4-H Camp Wabasso.
  • Plan the delivery and structure of 4-H youth development educational program goals.
  • Anticipate and project assigned 4-H youth development program expenses.
  • Propose budget for assigned programs and allocate budget amounts.
  • Plan 4-H fund development activities and participate in grant writing/fundraising.
  • Provide 4-H Program related information to the staffing plan development process.
  • Develop a comprehensive marketing plan for 4-H Camp Wabasso.
  • Provide overall management for the ACA accreditation process.
  • Provide guidance for assigned 4-H Youth Development educational programs and activities.
  • Provide overall grant management for assigned grants and/or contracts.
  • Solve problems and resolve conflicts in assigned 4-H programs.
  • Allocate program resources to accomplish Association program objectives.
  • Monitor assigned 4-H programs income/expenses.
  • Provide management and supervision to designated staff, including seasonal staff.
  • Provide oversight to Program Volunteers.
  • Monitor and schedule staff time.
  • Ensure 4-H Camp Wabasso meets Department of Health standards and maintain permits.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the 4-H enrollment and reporting process.
  • Coordinate 4-H fundraisers and trips.
  • Obtain evaluation data and program needs assessments.
  • Provide complex administrative support to prepare materials for report submission.
  • Maintain professional relationships with other agencies, organizations, and businesses.
  • Organize and coordinate activities related to 4-H Camp Programming.
  • Coordinate all administrative aspects of 4-H Camp Wabasso.
  • Organize and coordinate 4-H staff training and leadership training programs.
  • Provide overall coordination of camp facilities, operations, and programming.
  • Schedule health department, ropes course, and other facilities inspections.
  • Serve as host for overnight and day-only groups at Camp.
  • Transport program participants and/or program materials and resources as needed.
  • Attend NYS 4-H Camp training and meetings and ACA trainings.
  • Participate in required training to meet SACC licensing regulations.
  • Develop and pursue a professional development plan.
  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension.
  • Support the association to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar and strive to follow applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards.
