We're proud to be recognized as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies! We're looking for a 3rd Year Apprentice Heavy Duty Technician/Mechanic to support our growing operations in Leduc. As a Third Year Heavy Duty Mechanic Apprentice you will perform tasks in mechanical servicing, repair and maintenance of KBL’s fleet of heavy trucks and trailers. In this role, you’ll help keep our values alive — ensuring that as we scale, we continue to lead with care, connection, and community.

Requirements

  • Enrolled as a third year Heavy Duty Technician/Mechanic
  • Experience working on Heavy on Road Trucks and Trailers, Side and End Dump.
  • Possession of valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
  • Strong communication skills
  • Self-motivator willing to work overtime if needed

Nice To Haves

  • Hot work considered an asset
  • Familiar with Peterbilt/ Western Start/Kenworth is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Work with Equipment Manager to schedule required servicing to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime
  • Inspecting and diagnosing problems with heavy trucks and trailer equipment
  • Complete necessary repairs and required maintenance as per the scheduled servicing
  • Conducting preventative maintenance to ensure the safe operation of equipment
  • Accurate and timely completion of work orders, including time and parts per repair
  • Collaborating with other mechanics and technicians to solve complex problems
  • Have experience with highway units on operations and maintenance
  • Have computer skills to utilize equipment management programs and for completing equipment repair and maintenance logs
  • Welding non-structural and non-frame components on equipment
  • Grinding and cutting with grinder
  • Oxy acetylene torch use
  • General metal working
  • Keep tools clean and stored when not in use
  • Ensure parts are where they should be
  • Assist Service Manager with parts and inventory management
  • Adhere to Health and Safety Management System, be familiar with and follow all applicable safe work practices, safe operating procedures, and safety specifications detailed in equipment manuals and manufacturer’s specifications
  • Ensure that those persons assisting in the shop are also following applicable safe work standards
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or incidents and near misses to the Logistics Coordinator in a timely manner
