About The Position

Additive manufacturing, or 3D printing, is revolutionizing product design and manufacturing across industries. HP’s Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) and MetalJet technologies lead this transformation, enabling high-precision, efficient digital manufacturing. These innovations are widely adopted in aerospace, automotive, healthcare, and consumer goods for prototyping, production parts, and customization. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced engineer to join our additive manufacturing lab in Corvallis, Oregon as a Writing Systems and Software Tools Engineer. This role is critical in driving innovation by developing and optimizing printing processes, software tools, and data workflows in a fast-paced R&D environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Material Science, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in writing systems, 3D printing technologies, and R&D environments.
  • Proficiency in Python (backend services), SQL/database fundamentals, and Docker-based deployments.
  • Strong understanding of HP 3D printing firmware and writing systems functionality.
  • Familiarity with API integration, distributed systems troubleshooting, and Git/version control.
  • Knowledge of Windows/Linux command-line and security protocols (HTTP/HTTPS).

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct print experiments, analyze results, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Modify and optimize print modes for R&D activities, ensuring equipment readiness.
  • Develop and standardize test methods and templates for efficient experimentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Operations, Chemists, Test Engineers) to advance agents, print heads, and print capabilities.
  • Maintain and enhance R&D lab software tools (Thingworx, Enclave, Moseisley, Metallica).
  • Develop backend services and automation tools for job submission, telemetry, and metrology workflows.
  • Manage CRV metrology database: import/export tools, data reliability, and reporting functionality.
  • Support virtual printers and PC-targets for simulation and testing.
  • Maintain and update firmware; troubleshoot hardware, firmware, and network issues.
  • Implement API integrations, service routing, and environment-based configuration management.
  • Ensure authentication and security compliance (SSH keys, tokens, permissions).
  • Maintain detailed documentation of writing systems and software processes.
  • Provide technical support and collaborate across teams to meet quality standards.
