3D Generalist / Visualization Designer

Saronic Technologies•Austin, TX

About The Position

Saronic Technologies is seeking a curious, fast-moving 3D Generalist to join its 3D/Visualization team. The role works across the full 3D pipeline—including modeling, texturing, lighting, rendering, animation, and real-time production—to create visuals of the company’s vessels, systems, and environments. The designer will contribute hands-on from the start, producing work for customer briefings, events, product films, and internal use. This early-career role offers opportunities to learn from designers across Brand, Industrial, 3D/Visualization, Product, and Video, experiment with new tools and techniques, and help shape the team’s workflows. The position requires close collaboration across departments, quick iteration and delivery on short timelines, and responsible handling of sensitive and export-controlled information. The role is on-site and may involve occasional travel for events and demonstrations.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of professional 3D experience in-house, at a studio, freelance, or equivalent, or an exceptional portfolio from school or personal projects demonstrating equivalent skill.
  • A strong portfolio showing end-to-end 3D work, including modeling, texturing, lighting, rendering, and animation, with attention to craft and realism.
  • Proficiency in Cinema 4D or Blender and a physically based renderer such as Redshift, Octane, Cycles, or similar.
  • Experience with texturing and material tools such as Substance 3D Painter or Designer, and familiarity with procedural texturing.
  • Working knowledge of a real-time engine such as Unreal Engine or Unity.
  • Solid fundamentals in form, composition, lighting, color, and camera.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new tools quickly, with examples of independently learning software or techniques.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to receive feedback and iterate quickly.
  • Comfort working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments with shifting priorities.
  • Ability to work on-site and travel occasionally for events and demos.
  • If the role is based in the United States, eligibility for U.S. Person status is required because the position involves access to export-controlled information or items.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with AI-assisted and emerging 3D workflows, including generative image and 3D tools, ComfyUI-style pipelines, and capture techniques such as photogrammetry or Gaussian splatting.
  • Experience with Houdini or other procedural and simulation workflows, including water, weather, and effects.
  • Experience with Unreal Engine for cinematic, interactive, or virtual production work.
  • Compositing and finishing skills in After Effects or Nuke.
  • Experience working from CAD and engineering data, such as SolidWorks or Rhino, including cleanup and optimization for visualization.
  • Familiarity with rendering cached simulations such as Alembic, VDB, or USD files handed off from FX artists.
  • Familiarity with OCIO/ACES color management to maintain color consistency between Cinema 4D, Unreal, and compositing.
  • Experience with Plasticity or similar CAD-style modeling tools.
  • Basic scripting or technical art skills, such as Python, Blueprints, or Geometry Nodes.
  • Interest in or familiarity with defense, aerospace, robotics, or maritime technology.

Responsibilities

  • Model hard-surface vessels, systems, props, and environments from engineering CAD, concept art, and references, optimizing geometry for offline and real-time use.
  • Create clean UVs, textures, and PBR materials for use in hero renders and real-time engines.
  • Build and maintain a reusable, well-organized asset library for the team.
  • Light and render photorealistic and stylized scenes for stills, animations, and real-time experiences.
  • Develop cinematic, accurate visual looks and moods that reflect Saronic.
  • Optimize scenes for quality and rendering time, and keep pace with rendering technologies.
  • Animate vessels, mechanisms, cameras, and simulated environments such as water, weather, and effects to explain the company’s technology.
  • Build interactive and real-time scenes in Unreal Engine or a similar engine for demos, events, and internal tools.
  • Prototype ideas quickly and refine selected concepts into finished work.
  • Stay current with emerging 3D, real-time, and AI-assisted tools; experiment with tools and techniques on projects and share learnings with the team.
  • Help create repeatable pipelines, scene templates, and documentation to support project workflows from CAD through final output.
  • Collaborate with Growth, Industrial Design, Engineering, Brand, Motion, and Video to turn ideas and CAD into compelling visuals.
  • Take direction and feedback, iterate quickly, and deliver on short timelines, including support for events and customer demos.
  • Manage files, versions, and deadlines, and communicate progress and blockers early.
  • Handle sensitive and export-controlled information responsibly in accordance with company guidelines.
