The 3D CAD Engineer is responsible for generating high-quality 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and blueprints in support of the design and manufacturing of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) self-contained power generation systems. The role ensures that all models and drawings comply with ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards, and supports engineering, manufacturing, and configuration management teams by delivering precise, production-ready documentation.
Requirements
- Technical certification in CAD, drafting, or a related engineering/technical discipline preferred.
- Proven experience in 3D CAD modeling and engineering drawing generation in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.
- Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing practices preferred.
- Proficient in industry-standard CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, Creo).
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work collaboratively.
- Experience with configuration-controlled design environments is a plus.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in power generation, modular systems, or complex industrial equipment.
- Exposure to advanced metrology or measurement methods to support design verification.
- Ability to support both office-based design and field engineering requirements.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed 3D CAD models for piping, mechanical, and process systems using approved CAD software.
- Produce accurate engineering drawings and blueprints that comply with ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards and aerospace-quality manufacturing practices.
- Collaborate with engineers, metrology, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, functional, and meet project requirements.
- Support configuration management by maintaining organized CAD files and documentation in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Assist in design reviews and provide technical input on manufacturability, tolerances, and fit.
- Update and revise drawings as required based on engineering changes, field feedback, or manufacturing needs.
- Maintain adherence to departmental standards and best practices for CAD modeling and documentation.
