About The Position

The Second Shift Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for leading day-to-day manufacturing operations to meet production demands, quality standards, and delivery commitments. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role oversees second shift production activities across fabrication, assembly, inspection, and related manufacturing processes within a precision optics manufacturing environment. This position provides hands-on support for troubleshooting, training, and process execution while leading a team of technicians. The Manufacturing Supervisor is accountable for safety, quality, delivery, productivity, employee development, and continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with established manufacturing, quality, and cleanroom standards. The ideal candidate combines strong leadership skills with technical manufacturing knowledge and a commitment to operational excellence in a high-volume, high-mix production environment.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in manufacturing within a technical or precision production environment
  • 3–5+ years of experience leading technicians, operators, or production teams
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment required
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, production flow, and quality requirements
  • Strong leadership, coaching, employee development, and performance management skills
  • Ability to prioritize work, allocate resources, and drive accountability
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation
  • Working knowledge of cleanroom practices and contamination control
  • Experience with precision inspection, measurement techniques, and manufacturing equipment
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems; JD Edwards (JDE) experience preferred
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and manufacturing systems
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments
  • Work is performed in a combination of manufacturing, cleanroom, laboratory, and office environments
  • Regular use of personal protective equipment, including cleanroom garments and safety equipment
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements
  • Frequent handling of precision components and manufacturing materials
  • Ability to lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds
  • Frequent use of computers, manufacturing systems, and production equipment
  • Exposure to manufacturing equipment, chemicals, and production processes in accordance with established safety procedures

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Optics, Business, Management, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered
  • Experience working in a cleanroom or controlled manufacturing environment preferred
  • Experience supporting optical manufacturing, optical assembly, inspection, metrology, or related precision manufacturing processes preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead second shift manufacturing operations and execution of production schedules to meet safety, quality, delivery, and productivity objectives
  • Establish priorities, allocate resources, and manage workflow based on production requirements and changing business needs
  • Monitor staffing levels, training needs, and workload distribution to support production requirements
  • Own departmental performance metrics including Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, productivity, and on-time completion of work orders
  • Lead, coach, develop, and hold technicians accountable for performance, quality, attendance, training, and process adherence
  • Conduct employee performance reviews and support employee development planning
  • Act as the primary leadership resource for second shift operations and serve as a liaison between first and second shift teams
  • Partner with Planning to align production priorities, staffing, and schedule execution
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting and technical support for manufacturing, assembly, inspection, equipment, and process-related issues
  • Ensure adherence to manufacturing procedures, work instructions, quality requirements, and documentation standards
  • Ensure proper use of measurement and inspection equipment, including optical metrology tools where applicable
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Planning, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Operations teams to resolve issues and support production objectives
  • Monitor equipment performance and escalate maintenance, safety, quality, or operational concerns as appropriate
  • Ensure availability of materials, tooling, equipment, and resources required to support production schedules
  • Perform and support required ERP transactions and inventory controls to maintain accurate production and inventory records
  • Lead daily shift meetings and communicate production priorities, performance expectations, and operational updates
  • Promote and enforce compliance with safety requirements, cleanroom procedures, company policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives including Lean Manufacturing, 6S, workflow optimization, capacity improvements, and standard work development
  • Support new product introduction (NPI), process improvements, and production readiness activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
