About The Position

This position at JBS USA in Ottumwa, IA is a full-time role for a 2nd shift Maintenance Supervisor focusing on the 'Hot Side' of the plant. The supervisor will perform skilled maintenance activities including construction, welding, brazing, soldering, plumbing, and hydraulics. They will monitor all production areas to ensure equipment and machinery are functioning properly, prioritize work orders, and schedule mechanics based on urgency. A key part of the role involves training employees on safety procedures such as Lock Out Tag Out, Power Industrial Truck, Scissor Lift, and Harness/Fall Protection. The supervisor will also adjust, repair, and replace electrical and electronic equipment, participate in the HAZMAT team, and promote safety in all maintenance aspects. Administrative duties include arranging for completion of required paperwork like payroll and attending scheduled meetings. A safety background is desired, and the supervisor will provide timely feedback on team members' training progression, including hands-on verification of comprehension. The role requires goal orientation, root cause analysis skills, and the ability to lead people towards achieving personal and plant results. They will assist HR with maintaining accurate pay for hourly employees and keeping accurate placement records. The supervisor coordinates maintenance employee responsibilities, oversees the mechanical aspects of equipment, and is responsible for correcting defects causing downtime. They will process maintenance downtime reports, assign work orders or special projects, and maintain the department budget within specified guidelines. Preoperational inspections and addressing maintenance concerns of Production Supervisors are also part of the duties, ensuring operations begin as scheduled. Reviewing and submitting maintenance purchase requisitions for approval are also required, along with other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Be able to communicate verbally and in written form in English
  • Ability to perform general mathematical calculations.
  • Mechanical inclination and knowledge of job specifications.
  • Work 40+ hours per week in all areas of the plant.
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practices used in the building, mechanical and electrical trades.
  • Previous mechanical and related experience required.
  • Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Good attendance record (Less than 3 points, for internal candidates)
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

  • Industrial construction experience beneficial.
  • Previous hourly maintenance and supervisor experience preferred.
  • Technical schooling with mechanical or electrical emphasis helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled maintenance activities including construction, welding, brazing, soldering, plumbing and hydraulics.

  • Spend time in plant verifying team members with hands-on training and comprehension.
  • Coordinates maintenance employee’s responsibilities and oversees the mechanical of equipment.
  • Responsible for correcting or facilitating correctible measures when downtime results from mechanical or technical defects.
  • Processes maintenance downtime report for corporate and plant management.
  • Assigns work orders or special projects to maintenance employees.
  • Maintains department budget within specified guidelines.
  • Conducts preoperational inspection and handles maintenance concerns of Production Supervisors to make sure operation begins as scheduled.
  • Reviews maintenance purchase requisitions and submits for approval.
  • Tends to other duties as needed.
