About The Position

Hebrew Public is seeking a skilled, student-centered 2nd Grade Teacher to join their network of schools. The teacher will be responsible for delivering standards-based instruction in all core content areas, including literacy, math, science, social studies, and social-emotional learning, using specific curricula like EL Education for ELA and Eureka² Math for mathematics. This role is crucial for strengthening foundational skills, deepening understanding, and fostering confidence and independence in young learners. The ideal candidate will possess strong early elementary instructional practices, excellent classroom management, and a deep belief in the potential of children. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Deep belief in the limitless potential of all students and commitment to helping them thrive as global citizens.
  • Strong understanding of early literacy, foundational math, and child development.
  • Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to build clear routines, high expectations, and a positive classroom culture.
  • Ability to use student data to adjust instruction, address gaps, and accelerate growth.

Nice To Haves

  • Pennsylvania Elementary teacher certification, or active progress toward certification, preferred.
  • Experience working in urban school communities and a commitment to building strong relationships with students, families, and staff is preferred.
  • Early childhood or elementary teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience using EL Education, Eureka Math, or other high-quality instructional curricula preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach standards-based lessons in all core content areas, including ELA, math, science, social studies, and social-emotional learning.
  • Create a structured, engaging classroom culture with clear expectations, strong routines, and high levels of student engagement and accountability.
  • Build strong foundational literacy skills, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing.
  • Support students in developing number sense, mathematical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and confidence as mathematicians.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet a range of student needs, including intervention, acceleration, and enrichment.
  • Support students’ social-emotional growth and help them develop the skills needed to be successful learners and community members.
  • Internalize and prepare purposeful lessons aligned to grade-level standards and curriculum expectations.
  • Use student work, formative assessments, and summative data to adjust instruction and monitor progress.
  • Identify reading and writing strengths, misconceptions, and gaps in order to plan targeted support.
  • Collaborate with grade-level, content, special education, multilingual learner, and leadership teams to support student success.
  • Partner with families to communicate student progress, strengths, and areas for growth.
  • Contribute to a positive school culture rooted in care, accountability, and shared responsibility.
