About The Position

The Sophomore Career Exploration Internship gives undergraduate sophomores the opportunity to gain valuable work experience at a unique institution. Through dynamic, project-based work assignments and professional development activities, students get: A cohort-based learning model with a strong sense of community Real-world experience that helps them build strong skills and knowledge in their area of interest The chance to contribute to meaningful work that makes an impact on the lives of all Americans Opportunities to meet, network with, and work alongside our mission-driven, curious colleagues—all of whom are happy to share their experiences and advice An experienced professional mentor to support them throughout the program Access to learning events with senior leaders from the New York Fed, giving them direct insight into the public service and financial services world Sophomore interns work in one specific business area or function for ten weeks, and have access to opportunities for collaboration with other students and employees from around the Bank. At the end of the program, students leave with strong skills, professional connections, and meaningful experiences that will support them in their long-term careers. The mission of the Risk Group is to generate innovative and forward-looking opportunities that enable the Bank to leverage risk-related data and disciplines to be at the forefront of anticipating, adapting, and acting in pursuit of achieving its Mission. The candidate will be assigned to a Risk Group Function based on skillset and business need. Skills required include a combination of technical, strong analytical thinking and communication abilities.

Requirements

  • Ability to develop and develop data solutions and professional presentations
  • Some knowledge and quantitative interest in risk management principles helpful
  • Analyze business activities, understand, and describe process flows, strengths and weaknesses, and develop suggestions to improve efficiency and effectiveness
  • Willingness to learn new skills and tools and ability to collaborate

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the execution of the following risk management activities
  • Collect and analyze data and information to measure, monitor, and evaluate risk management practices and metrics
  • Collaborate with risk management professionals to analyze controls, dependencies and handoffs of critical processes.
  • Support program management and business analysis-related risk management activities
  • Generate reports, prepare inventories, plans, assessments, analyses, and other analytic and guidance documents to drive effective risk management practices using tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Tableau
  • Update program status reports and communications across FRBNY and FRS
