About The Position
The Undergraduate Summer Analyst Program gives undergraduate juniors the opportunity to gain valuable work experience at a unique institution. Through dynamic, project-based work assignments and professional development activities, students get a cohort-based learning model with a strong sense of community, real-world experience that helps them build strong skills and knowledge in their area of interest, the chance to contribute to meaningful work that makes an impact on the lives of all Americans, opportunities to meet, network with, and work alongside mission-driven, curious colleagues—all of whom are happy to share their experiences and advice, and an experienced professional mentor to support them throughout the program. Junior interns work in one specific business area or function for ten weeks, and have access to opportunities for collaboration with other students and employees from around the Bank. At the end of the program, students leave with strong skills, professional connections, and meaningful experiences that will support them in their long-term careers. The Research & Statistics Group - Research function at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York conducts policy-oriented academic research and provides analytic support for the Bank's responsibilities relating to monetary policy, monetary policy execution, banking supervision, payments systems, and other economic and financial issues.
Requirements
- Demonstrated interest in economics, public policy, mathematics or statistics, and a strong academic record.
- Ability to provide concise, articulate, and insightful economic analysis in written and verbal form.
- Good leadership skills with the ability to think strategically and demonstrate a broader viewpoint on assignments.
- Demonstrated interest in finance, accounting, economics, capital markets, business, ethics and compliance, or operational management with a strong academic record and passion for data analysis.
- High interest in Finance, Banking, or Economics, with a strong academic record and a passion for public service.
- Experience in data analysis, handling large databases, and using statistical packages (e.g., R, Stata, Matlab, Julia, SAS, Gauss, TSP, RATS, EViews, PROCSQL), or other computer programming experience (e.g., Java, C++, Python).
- Detail oriented with excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Acrobat.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or meet the definition of “protected individual” under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3), or certain other nonimmigrants, to access confidential supervisory information (CSI) and/or Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) information. All non-U.S. citizens authorized to access CSI and/or FOMC information must sign a declaration of intent to expeditiously become a lawful permanent resident and thereafter a U.S. citizen when eligible.
Responsibilities
- Assist economists and research associates in the analysis of current public policy issues and events.
- Assist economists and research associates in long-term, academically oriented research projects.
- Conduct econometric analyses intended for Bank publications as well as academic journals.
