Bristol Myers Squibb’s Drug Product Development group works across the pharmaceutical development process, from discovery through commercial launch and beyond, to deliver biologic and small-molecule drug products, including sterile formulations and novel drug delivery technologies. This internship is based in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and runs from June 7, 2027, through August 13, 2027. Over approximately 10 weeks, the intern will work with a mentor on a guided research project related to sterile formulation development and novel drug delivery technologies for biologics and small molecules. The work may span liquid, lyophilized, and other advanced delivery platforms, and integrates wet-lab and dry-lab activities. Projects may include feasibility experiments with formulation and processing technologies; formulation development and screening; stability assessment; physicochemical and biophysical characterization of critical quality attributes; and process optimization. The project may also involve biopharmaceutical investigation of biologics, including structure-function relationships, degradation pathways, and stability-indicating strategies to inform formulation design and support robust, patient-friendly drug products. The program provides industry and functional experience through challenging assignments, exposure to BMS and company representatives, an orientation, introductions to GPS and PD organizations, exposure to senior management and business leaders, hands-on training and work in pharmaceutical manufacturing process areas and testing laboratories, a mentor program, formal review and feedback sessions, and a final presentation. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, with selected candidates to be notified no later than February 2027. This is a temporary, time-bound internship and does not guarantee continued or permanent employment after the program. The role requires current enrollment in an accredited university PhD program in Pharmaceutical Science, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline, with expected graduation between Fall 2027 and 2028. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0 and include it on their resume. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States at hire and throughout the internship; visa sponsorship is not available. Compensation is $45 per hour. Limited benefits may be available depending on program structure, work location, and local requirements.
