About The Position

Drug Product Development works with colleagues throughout pharmaceutical development, from discovery to commercial launch and beyond, to develop novel formulations, processes, and medical devices for clinical and commercial drug products. The summer internship is a guided research experience of approximately 10 weeks focused on predictive modeling, data science, and AI/ML applications to drug product development. Interns work with mentors and collaborate with formulation, process development, and device engineering teams. The program provides industry and functional experience, challenging assignments, exposure to company representatives and leaders, hands-on training in pharmaceutical manufacturing and testing laboratories, formal feedback, and an end-of-internship presentation. The position is based in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The program runs from June 7, 2027, through August 13, 2027. This is a temporary, time-bound internship and does not guarantee continued or permanent employment after completion. Compensation is $45 per hour; limited benefits may be available depending on program structure, work location, and local requirements.

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Ability to solve problems independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience in computational modeling (such as fluid dynamics, discrete element modeling, or similar techniques) and/or data science, including ML and AI applied to large datasets, for engineering or pharmaceutical challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in one or more programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, R, or similar, with an emphasis on data analysis and modeling.
  • Experience developing and/or implementing test methods to produce data inputs for computational modeling.
  • Knowledge of drug product development processes, pharmaceutical unit operations for parenteral or oral solid dosage forms, and/or medical devices.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement computational models to analyze the effects of process variables and material properties on product attributes.
  • Apply machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to large datasets to generate insights and mitigate product-related risks.
  • Develop and test predictive models of pharmaceutical unit operations for oral solid and parenteral dosage forms, including drug delivery devices.
  • Collaborate with formulation, process development, and device engineering teams.
  • Present results to diverse audiences at internal forums.

Benefits

  • Interns and co-op participants may be eligible for limited benefits depending on program structure, work location, and local requirements.
