About The Position

The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Pascal Mubenga, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of: 2026 SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM CLRI: MY BROTHERS AND MY SISTERS KEEPER PROGRAM PS 309 EAST COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL. The program will run from July 27, 2026, to August 7, 2026, with setup/training on July 22 and July 23. The daily hours are from 8:30 AM to 3:45 PM (7.25 hours). The program is located at East High School.

Requirements

Hold a valid NYS teaching certificate
Currently employed with the Buffalo Public Schools
Hold a valid certification in one of the following areas: Physical Education, Physical Education with life guarding certification, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Social Work, Psychology or other NYS teacher certification
Priority will be given to qualified permanent/tenured/probationary/temporary Buffalo Public School teachers in order of summer school seniority.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of African American, Latinx, or Indigenous American history and culture, and the ability to provide professional development in these areas.
Only current and active BPS employees earn summer school seniority.
Candidates for Buffalo Public Schools Summer School are eligible to work for one of the summer programs only.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience teaching the MBK and MSK curriculum preferred.

Responsibilities

Plan and deliver curriculum for My Brother’s Keeper and My Sister’s Keeper during the Summer
Attend training related to anti-racist pedagogy and culturally and linguistically responsive classroom instruction
Attend curriculum development sessions to ensure a rigorous, relevant culturally responsive curriculum
Guide students through highly engaging inquiry-based learning experiences using hip-hop, music, lyrics, and culture, whereby they will be able to integrate their personal narratives within their respective historical and cultural contexts
Integrate technology into the learning experience
Collect qualitative data to measure program efficacy
Manage instructional supplies and materials
Chaperone students on local field experiences and facilitate field taxonomies that will expand student learning of topics.
Comfortable talking to students about race and equity.
