About The Position

The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Pascal Mubenga, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for the position of: 2026 SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM CLRI: MY BROTHERS AND MY SISTERS KEEPER PROGRAM PS 309 EAST COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL. The program will run from July 27, 2026, to August 7, 2026, with setup/training on July 22 and July 23. The daily hours are from 8:30 AM to 3:45 PM (7.25 hours). The program is located at East High School.

Requirements

  • Hold a valid NYS teaching certificate
  • Currently employed with the Buffalo Public Schools
  • Hold a valid certification in one of the following areas: Physical Education, Physical Education with life guarding certification, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Social Work, Psychology or other NYS teacher certification
  • Priority will be given to qualified permanent/tenured/probationary/temporary Buffalo Public School teachers in order of summer school seniority.
  • Upload a copy of your NYS certification(s). Ensure your name and certification area(s) are visible. A screenshot from your NYS Teach account or the physical document is acceptable.
  • Candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of African American, Latinx, or Indigenous American history and culture, and the ability to provide professional development in these areas.
  • Only current and active BPS employees earn summer school seniority.
  • Candidates for Buffalo Public Schools Summer School are eligible to work for one of the summer programs only.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience teaching the MBK and MSK curriculum preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver curriculum for My Brother’s Keeper and My Sister’s Keeper during the Summer
  • Attend training related to anti-racist pedagogy and culturally and linguistically responsive classroom instruction
  • Attend curriculum development sessions to ensure a rigorous, relevant culturally responsive curriculum
  • Guide students through highly engaging inquiry-based learning experiences using hip-hop, music, lyrics, and culture, whereby they will be able to integrate their personal narratives within their respective historical and cultural contexts
  • Integrate technology into the learning experience
  • Collect qualitative data to measure program efficacy
  • Manage instructional supplies and materials
  • Chaperone students on local field experiences and facilitate field taxonomies that will expand student learning of topics.
  • Comfortable talking to students about race and equity.
