About The Position

This program combines the best aspects of an internship and an apprenticeship, allowing participants to gain hands-on industry experience while earning college credit—all with no prior experience required. Participants will choose one of two career paths: Electrical Technicians or Fabricators (Welding & Fabrication). Whether you're looking to explore a skilled trade or begin a long-term career, this program provides real-world experience, professional mentorship, and a direct pathway into one of Utah's fastest-growing industries. As a Pre-Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced professionals while developing the foundational skills needed for a successful career in manufacturing and skilled trades. Depending on your selected career path, you will receive hands-on training in either Electrical or Fabrication while learning industry safety standards, quality expectations, manufacturing processes, and professional workplace skills.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of the program. (Exceptions made for those 16+ if they've graduated high school early)
  • Must have graduated from high school or possess a GED, or be on track to graduate prior to the program start.
  • Must be accepted into the USU Eastern Pre-Apprenticeship Program and complete any required enrollment through USU Eastern.
  • Must successfully complete Intermountain Electronics' pre-employment hiring process, including a background check and drug screen.
  • Ability to read and understand basic instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work well in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and regular attendance.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and the ability to accept coaching and constructive feedback.
  • Ability to safely perform physical work, including standing for extended periods, lifting materials, bending, climbing stairs, and working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Commitment to following all Intermountain Electronics safety policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Learn from experienced mentors in a real manufacturing environment.
  • Perform entry-level production and fabrication or electrical assembly tasks.
  • Safely operate tools, equipment, and machinery after proper training.
  • Follow company safety procedures and quality standards.
  • Participate in on-the-job training and classroom instruction.
  • Develop technical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
  • Maintain professionalism, attendance, and a positive attitude throughout the program.
  • Complete assigned projects and training objectives.
