About The Position

St. Joseph the Worker School is seeking a dedicated 1st Grade Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time, exempt position involves actively instructing 1st-grade students, creating lesson plans, managing the classroom, communicating with families, and fostering students' faith development. The role requires adherence to professional standards, collaboration with colleagues, and active participation in the school community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or equivalent.
  • PA Certification (K-4)
  • Effective communication with parents, students, and co-workers.
  • Understanding of child development and ability to relate to students.
  • Ability to handle classroom situations with fairness and patience.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of energy.
  • Ability to respond calmly to overwhelming and difficult situations.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, credibility, integrity, and self-confidence.
  • Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check (Act 153 of 2014, no less than 1 year old).
  • Attendance at the online Protecting God's Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare lesson plans, activities, projects, and assignments for 1st-grade students for the 2026-2027 school year.
  • Evaluate student performance through classwork, tests, and provide feedback.
  • Maintain fair, accurate, and timely grading policies, procedures, and attendance records.
  • Engage in professional growth, adhere to professional standards, and demonstrate professional ethics, sound judgment, and leadership.
  • Cooperate and collaborate with other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Identify materials needed to implement class activities/projects.
  • Communicate regularly with students and parents about schedules, assignments, events, and individual student needs.
  • Meet with parents during parent-teacher conferences.
  • Regularly check email and update web pages as required.
  • Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge to provide an effective educational foundation.
  • Organize daily class time and develop weekly lessons with appropriate instructional materials.
  • Provide appropriate, detailed instructions/plans for a substitute teacher in the event of absence.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the prescribed curriculum, current educational research, and technological tools.
  • Evaluate each student's progress, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports and report cards.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  • Follow all St. Joseph the Worker School and Allentown Diocese policies.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate student supervision to ensure a safe, orderly, effective, and productive environment.
  • Uphold St. Joseph the Worker School's discipline procedures.
  • Supervise students in hallways, cafeteria, bus areas, and at special events.
  • Rotate with staff on student arrival and dismissal.
  • Maintain an orderly classroom stocked with appropriate supplies.
  • Supervise and manage students' behavior to foster a positive and healthy learning environment.
  • Attend all required in-service training meetings and workshops.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Be involved in the school community by attending school events, activities, and fundraisers.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Principal.
