A 1st Class Outside Machinist is responsible for installing vessel machinery using blueprints and hand tools, with knowledge of some aspects of air controls and tubing bending. This role requires the ability to read and interpret standard construction drawings, specifications, and other technical publications. The machinist will apply knowledge of system start-up procedures, propulsion system alignment, and machinery plants, and become familiar with all aspects of craft-specific marine construction from design through installation and operational testing. They will utilize necessary tools and equipment, perform tasks related to air controls and tubing bending, and conduct operational testing of installed systems.
