About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a 1:1 Special Education ParaEducator at Hayes Intermediate School. This full-time position involves providing personalized support to a student with special needs, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance to thrive academically and socially. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping students overcome challenges and foster an inclusive learning environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in special education or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with students with special needs in an educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to support the learning and development of students with diverse needs.
  • Ability to follow directions, work collaboratively as part of a team, and adapt to changing situations.
  • Basic knowledge of special education laws, practices, and strategies is a plus.
  • Proficiency in technology and willingness to learn new tools and software relevant to special education.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is preferred or must be obtained within a specified timeframe.
  • Background check and clearance as required by state and district policies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized support to students with special needs, assisting them in academic tasks and daily activities.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student’s unique needs.
  • Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and engagement, reporting any concerns to the supervising teacher or special education coordinator.
  • Assist students in developing social skills and independence, fostering positive peer relationships and self-advocacy.
  • Implement instructional strategies and accommodations as directed by the classroom teacher or special education staff.
  • Provide support during classroom activities, including group work, transitions, and extracurricular activities.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment, promoting respect and understanding among all students.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education practices.
  • Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students, families, and staff members.
