About The Position

Requirements

• Previous experience coaching or playing soccer, with demonstrated knowledge of the goalkeeper position.
• Proven ability to plan and deliver effective goalkeeper training for high school student-athletes.
• Understanding of fundamental goalkeeper techniques, tactical principles, and player development.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple coaching staffs.
• Commitment to student-athlete development, safety, and Menlo School’s educational mission.
• Availability for scheduled afternoon practices, approximately 3:00–5:00 pm, and selected competitions.

Nice To Haves

• Previous goalkeeper coaching experience at the high school, club, collegiate, or professional level.
• Recognized goalkeeper coaching education or certification.
• U.S. Soccer or United Soccer Coaches coaching credentials.
• Experience working with both boys and girls programs.
• Familiarity with video analysis and individualized goalkeeper development planning.
• Experience developing goalkeepers within a team-based tactical training environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver structured goalkeeper training suited to athletes’ experience, ability, and developmental needs.
• Develop goalkeepers’ technical skills, including positioning, footwork, handling, diving, shot stopping, aerial play, and distribution.
• Build tactical understanding of defensive organization, one-on-one situations, set pieces, transitions, and buildup play.
• Develop goalkeepers’ decision-making, communication, leadership, confidence, and composure under pressure; provide individualized feedback and identify development priorities.
• Coordinate position-specific physical preparation with Sports Performance and Sports Medicine staff.
• Collaborate with the Boys and Girls Soccer Program Directors and coaching staffs to align goalkeeper development with each program’s playing philosophy and training objectives.
• Integrate goalkeepers into team training, including possession, attacking, defending, and transitional activities.
• Support goalkeeper development at varsity, junior varsity, and freshman levels as scheduling and program needs allow.
• Assist with goalkeeper evaluation and provide head coaches with input on player development and competitive readiness.
• Support match preparation, goalkeeper warmups, and competitions when scheduled.
• Provide consistent and equitable coaching support to both programs; coordinate weekly training, balance individual work with team practices, communicate conflicts and anticipated absences, and coordinate match coverage with head coaches.
• Maintain regular communication with both coaching staffs about goalkeeper development, training progress, and needs.
• Model professionalism, integrity, accountability, and sportsmanship, and create a supportive, challenging environment that promotes growth, confidence, and competitive excellence.
• Recognize the developmental needs of high school student-athletes, reinforce school expectations for conduct, teamwork, and responsibility, and prioritize student-athlete safety and well-being.
• Attend relevant coaching meetings and program activities as requested.
• Assist with goalkeeper equipment organization, maintenance, and inventory.
• Maintain appropriate communication with coaching staff and Athletics leadership; follow Athletics policies, procedures, and student-athlete safety standards.
• Complete required employment clearances and coaching certifications, and perform other related coaching duties as assigned.
