About The Position

Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) is a non-profit corporation guided by a student board and managed by full-time professional staff, serving the Cal Poly Pomona campus community. ASI provides opportunities for student engagement, employment, and a variety of programs and services including recreation and wellness. As an evolving learning organization, ASI is human-centered and committed to learning, continuous improvement, and innovation. The Fitness team within ASI Campus Recreation offers a wide range of program offerings at the Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex (BRIC), including group fitness classes and personal training services, aiming to help students build lasting habits of health and wellness.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 months of customer service experience
  • Minimum of 3 months of Zumba instruction experience
  • Zumba Instructor License (Basic 1) required at time of hire
  • Demonstrated ability to work with an ethnically diverse and culturally pluralistic student population and campus community
  • Lay Responder CPR/AED/FA within 30 days of hire (provided by ASI)
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete a background check (including a criminal records check)
  • Must be a Cal Poly Pomona student eligible to work in the United States
  • Currently enrolled in a minimum of 6.0 units (undergraduate) or 4.0 units (graduate)
  • International student employees must be enrolled in a minimum of 12.0 units (undergraduate) and 6.0 units (graduate) at the end of the add-drop period
  • Minimum overall and Cal Poly Pomona GPA of 2.0 and be in good academic standing
  • Individuals enrolled only in Extended University are not eligible for hire
  • Exceptions to the unit load requirement are allowed during the summer term and for students who have applied for graduation for the current term

Responsibilities

  • Lead in-person (at the BRIC) structured group activities and/or fitness classes appropriate for varying levels of physical fitness and experience
  • Arrive on time to scheduled class or clinic; ensure that classes begin and end on time
  • Clean and organize studio (including equipment used) after each group fitness class
  • Ensure proper check-in of participants for instructional clinics and fee-based programs
  • Enforce fitness studio and BRIC policies
  • Report accurate class participation numbers, as directed
  • Assist with special events as assigned
  • Maintain current knowledge of other ASI and Campus Recreation programs and services
  • Maintain open communication with the Group Fitness Supervisor & Fitness Manager
  • Attend trainings, meetings, and workshops as required
  • Maintain relevant certifications including CPR/AED and First Aid, and specialized certifications if applicable
  • Perform other duties as assigned
