To perform a variety of tasks associated with advanced technical zoning inspection; to enforce zoning codes, regulations and ordinances. All behaviors comply with the Code of Conduct and Rules of Behavior outlined in Chapter 8 of the General Government Policies and Procedures Manual. Inspect businesses for proper use and compliance with approved certificate of occupancy. Inspect previously occupied buildings, spaces or suites for code compliance with any Conditional Use Permit. Inspect existing residential and commercial structures for change of use, occupancy, or compliance with applicable codes and ordinances. Perform random and systematic inspections for compliance with the City's sign code. Confer with business owners, tenants and the general public; explain and interpret requirements and restrictions of adopted codes and ordinances. Receive calls and answer questions about permits and code requirements; direct inquiries as necessary. Retrieve permit information from the computer; verify legal data including owners, tax records, and other data needed to issue permits. Maintain files and reports regarding inspection activities and findings on all active projects. Testify in court as necessary. Drive to and from destinations as assigned by Supervisor. Oversee maintenance of assigned vehicle. Investigate and resolve public complaints; determine compliance with City codes and ordinances; and recommend appropriate actions. Assist in training other inspectors and related staff as appropriate. Teach or attend a minimum of 96 hours of training annually on the legal, administrative, mentoring and technical aspects of the ICC codes. Perform other duties as assigned.
