The Zoning Enforcement Team ensures properties comply with Zoning Ordinances and the Virginia Maintenance Code. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Public Administration, or a related field
Six (6) years of related work experience in planning and/or zoning
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Valid driver’s license
Driving record check
Credit check
Criminal background check

Certified Zoning Administrator (CZA) certification

Responsibilities

Oversees and manages all aspects of assigned duties or programs within Zoning Enforcement.
Responds to constituent complaints.
Investigates and resolves issues related to alleged zoning violations, Virginia Maintenance Code violations, and codified ordinances.
Conducts residential and commercial occupancy inspections for new construction.
Works closely with the Office of the County Attorney, seeking legal advice and preparing cases for court action.
Has daily contact with the Board of Supervisors and their staff regarding constituent issues.
Collaborates on matters of organizational development, budget, and recruitment as part of the Department leadership team.
Supports interdepartmental initiatives.
Motivates and supports professional staff.
Finds solutions to complex zoning enforcement questions.
Thinks strategically about operational and programmatic issues.
Negotiates sensitive issues with diplomacy and a willingness to seek reasonable solutions.
Communicates effectively with staff, the public, and elected and appointed officials.
Mentors and motivates professional staff.
