About The Position

This dynamic individual takes full ownership and drives the mission to ensure Morgan’s cargo not only meets but surpasses every internal and customer quality standard — delivering excellence with every shipment! Zone Team Leads must actively participate in weekly Leadership meetings and Gemba Walks and complete the Leadership course as designated by Management. Newly promoted Zone Team Leads will undergo a 2-month probation period, at the end of which a 30-minute review/test will be conducted by the Production Manager to confirm permanent placement.

Requirements

  • Promotion Eligibility: Team members can be promoted to Zone Team Lead only after meeting the primary qualification criteria.
  • Probation Period: Newly promoted Zone Team Leads will undergo a 2-month probation period.
  • Performance Review: At the end of probation, a 30-minute review/test will be conducted by the Production Manager to confirm permanent placement.
  • Leadership Participation: Zone Team Leads must actively participate in weekly Leadership meetings and Gemba Walks.
  • Leadership Development: Must complete the Leadership course as designated by Management.
  • Training Checklist items: Scrap Sub Sheets, Parts Request Sheets, BBS Audits, Gemba Walks, Crane Sheets, Work Order, BOM, Data Releases, Drawings, MSC Machines, Maintenance Requests, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, RE or Standard Hours, Work Center Efficiency, Andon schedule (Daily Schedule Attainment), TAKT, Adjusting the Labor variations, Work Center Containment (Quality), Play of the Day – High RE content units, Next Shift Setup, Andon System, PPS Boards, 5S, Root Cause and Corrective Actions, Pareto Analysis, Stop Sign Process, Autonomous Maintenance Calendars, Lean Manufacturing Principles.

Responsibilities

  • Actively monitor safety behaviors of all team members within their zone and evaluate workplace conditions. Communicate any issues needing support to the Supervisor and Maintenance as necessary.
  • Address safety behavior issues through coaching and mentorship, escalating to the Supervisor if the behavior continues.
  • Submit maintenance requests promptly for damaged equipment.
  • Ensure daily inspections of cranes, forklifts, and other required equipment are completed at the start of every shift.
  • Oversee that Autonomous Maintenance (AM) calendars are completed daily and submitted to the Supervisor monthly.
  • Conduct Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) audits weekly and submit the results to the Supervisor.
  • Read and understand Morgan Truck Body literature, including Work Orders, Bills of Material (BOM), Data Releases, and Drawings, and train team members on these.
  • Ensure scrap sheets are accurately completed and submitted daily, and train team members on this process.
  • Ensure Parts Request Forms are submitted within defined process times by shift and product line.
  • Have a thorough understanding of the Andon schedule and daily TAKT time.
  • Comprehend work content for each unit and effectively manage or assist labor to complete units within the TAKT cycle, ensuring 100% daily schedule attainment.
  • Calculate efficiency within each work center in their zone and implement corrective actions to improve any substandard performance.
  • Communicate with other Zone Team Leads to understand labor requirements and adjust labor based on the Andon schedule, considering the skill sets of team members.
  • Lead weekly PPS meetings and have a full understanding of all data displayed on the board.
  • Analyze efficiency data and proactively address work centers performing below plan.
  • Collaborate with the Supervisor to plan, manage, and maintain Zone skills matrices, identifying gaps and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure team members have all necessary tools within the work center to perform their jobs efficiently and are responsible for tool maintenance to prevent downtime during shifts.
  • Be proficient in managing tool vending via MSC machines and understand their operation.
  • Actively manage 5S within their zone, ensuring all tools and equipment have designated homes and that team members adhere to 5S policies.
  • Complete weekly 5S audits, posting results and corrective actions on PPS boards.
  • Complete monthly 5S projects with supporting photos to demonstrate progress.
  • Train new team members and ensure they complete the Andon Schedule during their learning curve.
  • Be responsible for the quality of products within their zone and have a thorough understanding of all relevant quality standards.
  • Ensure that only defect-free products are produced and maintain strict adherence to quality protocols.
  • Lead the training of new team members on quality standards to uphold consistent product excellence.
  • Collaborate with the Quality team to complete RCRA (Root Cause and Corrective Action) for any Infant Warranty issues or top Defect Per Unit (DPU) items identified from weekly Zone DPU data.
  • Stay informed about the play of the day practices and high RE content units scheduled in their work center.
  • Effectively communicate any missing resources (materials, tools, etc.) with other Zone Team Leads in advance to prevent interruptions during the TAKT cycle.
  • Have a strong understanding of the “Next Shift Setup” process based on the Andon schedule and ensure their work center is fully compliant.
  • Read and interpret the Andon System HMI and be skilled in using the Morgan Andon light/horn response system.
  • Be responsible for developing the next Zone Team Lead.
  • Be responsible for the development of Work Center Team Leads.
  • Have a strong understanding of Visual Factory concepts and all performance metrics for their work center and team.
  • Consistently communicate team performance to members and actively drive continuous improvement.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in their area.
  • Have a solid understanding of the 5S audit form, 5S color codes, and the four levels of 5S achievement.
  • Be familiar with the weekly and monthly 5S score trends for their work centers.
  • Perform 5S audits effectively for their work centers.
  • Have a good understanding of Lean Manufacturing concepts including JBPCO Lean Strategy, Customer Satisfaction, Team Building and Respect for People, 8 types of “Wastes”, Value added vs. Non-Value added, Standard Work, TAKT, Quick Changeover (QCO), Process Flow, Kaizen & Continuous Improvement, Problem Solving.
