About The Position

The City of Marquette is seeking a seasonal Zamboni Driver to maintain a high-quality ice surface at Lakeview Arena. This role involves general custodial duties, operations, and maintenance for Parks & Recreation facilities. The position requires individuals who are dedicated and willing to work evenings and weekends. The term of employment is seasonal and may not exceed six months, with variable start and end dates.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must maintain satisfactory working relationships with public officials, the general public, and other City employees.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Physical strength and dexterity to perform strenuous work involving lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects.
  • A valid Michigan driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Ability to communicate orally in a clear manner.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and materials used.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic skating ability.
  • Previous ice arena and ice resurfacing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a Zamboni, edger, or other key equipment for ice arena operations to maintain a high-quality ice surface.
  • Perform general custodial and maintenance duties for daily operations or special events, including setup and tear down, locker room and restroom cleaning, and lobby/hallway cleaning.
  • Ensure ice rental schedules are followed and daily facility needs are completed, including building security, post-event cleanup, and opening/closing procedures.
  • Report accidents, emergencies, scheduling problems, and building repair/maintenance needs to the appropriate City staff.
  • Keep all doorways and walkways clear of ice and snow.
  • Exercise high standards of customer service and professionalism when handling complaints or enforcing Arena rules.
  • Open, maintain, and close various Parks & Recreation facilities for rental events.
  • Exercise proper safety precautions, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment, machine guards, and safe work procedures.
