z/OS Developer and Support - Level III

About The Position

PlanIT Group is seeking a z/OS Developer and Support - Level III for our Federal customer in the Washington, DC area. The ideal applicant will research, design, implement and manage software programs as well as testing and evaluating new programs. Resolves problems with software and responds to suggestions for improvements and enhancements. Writing and implementing efficient code. Works closely with other developers, UX designers, business, and systems analysts. This is a remote position with a start date of 02/17/2025 and an initial duration of one year plus annual extensions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years in mainframe development, including IBM z/OS, JCL, COBOL, VSAM, and MQ.
  • Experience with REXX and SAS scripting for automation and data manipulation.
  • Experience in mainframe application development and support is required.
  • Familiarity with mainframe communication tools such as CICS and MQ and mainframe security protocols, including RACF.
  • Proficient in JCL, COBOL, VSAM, MQ, and CICS.
  • Proficiency in REXX and SAS scripting on mainframe systems for data manipulation and process automation.
  • Knowledge of best practices in mainframe development and support.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, especially for collaborating on mainframe integration with Java developers and migration planning.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment with a focus on quality and attention to detail.
  • A minimum of eight (8) to twelve (12) years' relevant experience.
  • A degree from an accredited College/University in the applicable field of services is required. If the individual's degree is not in the applicable field, then four additional years of related experience is required.
  • Typically performs all functional duties independently.
  • Must be able to obtain a Position of Public Trust Clearance.
  • Pass both a client mandated clearance process to include drug screening, criminal history check and credit check.
  • All candidates must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident only.
  • Candidate must have lived in the United States for the past 5 years.
  • Cannot have more than 6 months travel outside the United States within the last five years.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with DevOps practices on mainframes.
  • Familiarity with MQ use with Apache Kafka.
  • Prior experience with performance tuning on mainframe systems.
  • Experience in documenting mainframe operations and applications.
