About The Position

The Youth Worker supports newcomer youth and their families in their settlement, integration, and educational journeys. Working closely with school teams, community partners, and internal staff, the Youth Worker provides direct client support, coordinates settlement-related activities, and contributes to the delivery of youth programs that build confidence, skills, and community connections.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education: Degree(s)/ diplomas in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Education, International Relations, or related disciplines.
  • Experience working with immigrant, refugee, or youth populations in educational or community settings.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data management tools.
  • Access to reliable transportation required.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of local settlement services and school systems is an asset.
  • Additional languages considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Create connections and promote CBFY services in the supported school communities.
  • Build rapport and provide individualized support to newcomer youth and their families using a strengths-based approach.
  • Educate clients on available resources, services, and processes to meet their settlement and integration needs.
  • Collaborate with SWIS Workers and other staff to design and deliver youth settlement plans, referrals, and engagement activities.
  • Develop and facilitate educational, recreational, and information sessions addressing client needs and community awareness.
  • Support program evaluation, collect feedback, and ensure accurate data entry in digital systems.
  • Participate in planning and delivery of summer programs and camps.
  • Maintain accurate client documentation and program records using organizational digital tools.
  • Enter and submit data and reports (monthly, narrative, mileage, and expenses) as required.
  • Actively participate in professional development and training opportunities.
  • Welcome feedback and engage in continuous learning and performance improvement.
  • Share information, ideas, and resources within the NNESST team and across CBFY programs.
  • Participate in team meetings, committees, task groups, and agency-wide projects.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, school personnel, and community stakeholders.
  • Represent CBFY in community networks, school events, and collaborative initiatives.
  • Promote awareness of newcomer youth experiences and contributions within the broader community.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and reliability across all work commitments, including service delivery, events, meetings, and reporting deadlines.
  • Follow health and safety legislation and organizational policies.
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace environment.
  • Report hazards, incidents, and concerns promptly and cooperate with safety protocols.
