Youth Volleyball Referee/Supervisor
About The Position
Vineyard City is hiring Youth Volleyball Referees and Supervisors for the Vineyard Youth Volleyball League. Games for 3rd–6th grade coed divisions will take place November 11 through December 8, 2026, at Vineyard’s Freedom Preparatory Academy. Work hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and/or Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Each division will have one referee per game. Referees and supervisors report to Vineyard City’s Recreation Coordinators. Training will be provided in person before assigned divisions, with ongoing training and two performance evaluations during the season. Bonuses and swag are available based on performance. Requirements
- Referees must be at least 16 years old; supervisors must be at least 18 years old.
- General knowledge of volleyball rules is required, along with a willingness to learn.
- Must be available to work weekday evening games and/or Saturdays, including evening shifts as assigned by Vineyard City's Parks & Rec Director, Rec Manager, or Rec Coordinators.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to work with adults and children in grades 3–6.
- Must pass a background check and drug test; drug testing applies to those 18 and older.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and make sound decisions under pressure.
Nice To Haves
- Prior referee or supervisory experience.
- Competitive volleyball experience.
- Previous volleyball instruction experience.
Responsibilities
- Officiate youth volleyball games.
- Set up and clean up for games.
- Maintain order and encourage good sportsmanship.
- Teach participants basic volleyball skills.
- Communicate clearly, including using a whistle to make calls.
- Enforce Vineyard Recreation Youth Volleyball Game rules.
- Follow safety procedures and make sound decisions under pressure.
