About The Position

Good Shepherd is currently seeking a Temporary Part-Time Youth Support Worker to join Brennan House on a 15-month contract. Brennan House is a 15-bed facility for youth aged 15-18 with complex mental health issues. Staff at Brennan house develop individualized treatment plans to support or enhance youth with their integration into the community. Youth have barrier free access to mental health clinician and individualized clinically informed care. Staff members support clients to reach personal goals and to have a satisfying and meaningful life in the community.

Requirements

A post-secondary degree/diploma in social work/social services/child and youth services etc.
Demonstrated knowledge/experience of working with transitional-aged youth, youth homelessness and substance use/abuse
A proven ability to work independently, taking initiative and thinking creatively are required
CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required
Good judgement, problem-solving and assessment skills
Committed to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good Shepherd
Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety practices and understanding of an employee's responsibility under current legislation

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of and experience working in residential treatment for Children under the Ministry Guidelines are a plus
Fluency in French and/or another language(s) is also an asset

Responsibilities

Assessment, planning, crisis prevention and intervention, supportive counselling, education, advocacy, social/recreational programming, life skills teaching i.e. cooking and linkages with other community services.
Participating in Good Shepherd's Health and Safety programs, procedures, procedures and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd.
