About The Position

The BCYF Leahy Holloran Community Center is seeking Youth Staff to assist with welcoming and checking in children and youth, engaging them in age-appropriate activities, and transitioning between activities and recreational programs. These activities may include homework assistance, arts and crafts, STEM activities, games, community events, civic engagement, photography/video, and more. The role involves assisting with program setup, supervision, participant engagement, and cleanup for various activities and community events. Youth Staff will also organize, distribute, collect, and store program supplies, and help maintain a safe, clear, and organized teen center and programming space. A key aspect of the role is serving as a positive role model by providing welcoming, inclusive, and respectful assistance to youth participants and families. Some youth staff may participate in a variety of activities or be assigned to multiple roles, including facilities/front desk and recreation assistant. Participation in civic engagement and city beautification activities of the Boston City Youth Corps is also expected.

  • Previous experience working with summer camps or out-of-school-time programs is also preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that campers are supervised at all times.
  • Help maintain a safe and enjoyable camp environment.
  • Escort youth to and from designated camp activities.
  • Work cooperatively with other Camp Leaders to complete all tasks as assigned.
  • Attend and participate in all camp activities.
  • Do head counts of participants throughout the day and accurately maintain a count of the daily group attendance during all camp activities.
  • Aid camp leaders in tracking each camper's medical conditions; observe campers for any behavior changes or illnesses during the day.
  • Observe and promote all rules and regulations of the LHCC and the day camp.
  • Carry and/or keep track of activity supplies throughout the camp day, both on-site and off.
