About The Position

Help young athletes build confidence, learn new skills, and have fun through introductory sports programs at the Champaign Park District. The Youth Sports Instructor leads and supports instructional programs for children ages 3 to 14 in sports such as t-ball, softball, basketball, football, soccer, and other youth activities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, creating a positive learning environment, and helping participants develop basic sports skills in a safe and encouraging setting.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Interest in instructional youth sports and development for children
  • Knowledge of at least one sport and the rules.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with participants, parents, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to follow written lesson plans and adapt instructions for individual needs.
  • Ability to respond to problems and make sound judgments in alignment with Park District policies.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written communication.
  • Ability to run, stretch, jump, and perform other physical movements typical of sports instruction.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to respond quickly and accurately in emergencies, including performing CPR/First Aid once trained.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children 3 - 14 preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach participants the fundamentals of assigned youth sports programs.
  • Follow prepared lesson plans and assist with updates as directed.
  • Create a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Adjust instruction and activities to meet the needs and abilities of individual children.
  • Take accurate attendance for assigned programs.
  • Inspect equipment and supplies before and during use and report any concerns.
  • Ensure proper care, use, and return of Park District equipment.
  • Respond to participant, parent, or spectator concerns in a professional manner.
  • Complete accident, incident, and other required reports promptly and accurately.
  • Attend required meetings and trainings.
  • Represent the Park District in a positive, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Follow all safety, confidentiality, equal opportunity, and harassment prevention policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
