About The Position

The Youth Sports Instructor is responsible for refereeing, coaching, and/or supervising various sports programs. This role involves enforcing Channel Islands YMCA policies and procedures, responding to emergencies, and completing incident reports. The instructor will provide inclusive instruction based on best practices, manage equipment setup and breakdown, and deliver exceptional customer service. A key aspect of this role is creating a welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all members and guests, while also ensuring the safety of children and maintaining proper supervision. The position also requires participation in in-service trainings, reporting any facility or equipment concerns, and supporting the annual campaign process. Additionally, the instructor must understand their role as a mandated reporter of elder and child abuse and act in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance, if over 18 years old
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid work permit required if a minor
  • Complete required certifications within 60 days of hire
  • Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire

  • Previous work experience in related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Refereeing, coaching, and/or supervising various sports programs
  • Enforce and follow all Channel Islands YMCA policy and procedures
  • Respond to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures
  • Complete incident reporting
  • Provide instruction that is inclusive and based on best practices
  • Set up and put away equipment before and after sports programs
  • Provide exceptional customer service and foster connections with members
  • Participate and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings
  • Create an environment that is welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive for all members and guests
  • Able to work collaboratively and respectfully as part of a staff team
  • Ensure building, grounds, and equipment are in working order. Report any concerns
  • Maintain certifications and take advantage of professional growth opportunities
  • Support the annual campaign process including education of members
  • Understand your role as a mandated reporter of elder and child abuse. Report and respond to situations in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Ensure safety of children in facilities and programs and that proper supervision is provided
