About The Position

The YMCA of the Roses is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic Youth Sports Instructor to join their team at the Shrewsbury YMCA. This part-time position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children, teaching sports fundamentals, and fostering a fun, encouraging environment for young athletes to learn, grow, and build confidence. This role supports the Y's mission of strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility by providing direct supervision of children in sports programs, building positive relationships with them and their caregivers, and promoting youth potential and peer connections.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old with a High School diploma/GED
  • Knowledge in teaching/instructing the fundamentals of one or more of these sports: basketball, soccer, t-ball/baseball, flag football, volleyball, and floor hockey
  • Must have or obtain CPR and AED certification
  • Must have or obtain clearances for working with youth
  • Obtain Criminal background check, Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI fingerprint clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 1 year working with youth or in a leadership position preferred

Responsibilities

  • Instruct sports classes/events of up to approximately 10-30 youth
  • With the program agenda provided by the Sports Director, instruct participants in the proper techniques of the major sports offered during different times of the year
  • Promote character counts values (caring, honesty, respect, responsibility)
  • Ensure all equipment is used properly, cleaned, and returned to the appropriate locations
  • Set-up and clean-up before and after class each day
  • May assist in events such as Kids Night Out, Healthy Kids Day, races, etc.
