About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Youth Sports Instructor is a year-round program serving youth 18 months - 10 years of age. Programs may include basketball, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, tumbling/cheer, and dance. The instructor is responsible for the development and implementation of youth sports curriculum and program sessions. The Youth Sports Instructor facilitates relationship-based, quality programs, sports leagues and instructional classes that deeply engage members in the YMCA. Staff will provide a quality experience to children and parents with focus on quality program operations.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 16 years old
  • CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications required within 90 days
  • Current Praesidium Academy trainings

Nice To Haves

  • Background in athletics, sports or tumbling preferred
  • Experience working with children ages 18 months - 12 years in group settings (childcare, camps, youth programs, preschool, etc.)
  • Experience in organized play preferred
  • Ability to support children with varying needs and behaviors
  • Ability to display passion, enthusiasm and support for the mission and values of the YMCA

Responsibilities

  • Lead engaging youth sports classes, clinics, and programs for participants of all ages and skill levels.
  • Teach sport-specific skills, rules, and techniques in programs such as basketball, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball, cheer/tumbling, and dance.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and fun environment that promotes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and character growth.
  • Build strong relationships with participants and families, helping them feel connected to the YMCA community.
  • Prepare and inspect fields, courts, gyms, and equipment to ensure safe, high-quality program experiences.
  • Monitor participant safety, respond appropriately to incidents, and follow all YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Maintain program supplies and promptly report damaged equipment or safety concerns.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and ongoing development opportunities to support program excellence.
