About The Position

The City and County of Denver’s Department of Parks and Recreation offers Youth Sports programming for kids ages 3 - 17 years. Our team of devoted Coaches enrich the lives of youth through engagement of sports, learning the fundamentals of numerous sports including baseball, basketball, coach pitch, T-ball, softball, flag football, gymnastics, tumbling, cheerleading, volleyball, soccer, and track and field. The fall season runs from late August to mid November. We are looking for coaches who can commit to the full duration of their respective season. This is an on-call position, which means it is a part-time, hourly role. This position will work no more than 39 hours per week. The pay rate for this position is $19.80/hour and is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On‐call positions may have routine or variable work schedules. In this position you can expect to work on site at recreation centers and/or field sites throughout Denver.

Requirements

  • Current CPR/First Aid certification
  • Experience as a Head Coach or a minimum of two seasons as an Assistant Coach
  • Experience instructing or coaching flag football, soccer, volleyball, gymnastics, or tennis
  • Experience coaching, instructing, or teaching youth
  • Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • One (1) year of experience in assisting in the operation and instruction of organized recreation activities
  • Requires certification in CPR and First Aid within six (6) months of date of hire. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of continued employment

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a role model for youth in a sports program focused on sportsmanship, fun, skill development and character development
  • Develop fun and creative practice plans for youth ages 3 - 17 years
  • Be accountable and prepared for all practices and games including equipment management, conflict resolution, and parent communication
  • Provide and maintain a safe environment for all participants
  • Enforce program rules, department policies, and provide conflict resolution and behavior management when necessary
  • Facilitate on-field/on-court officiating and instruction as necessary
  • Attend all mandatory trainings and workshops
