Youth Sports Facility Lead - Basketball

About The Position

Facility Leads oversee operations and support staff, volunteers, and participants in gym or park facilities during youth basketball programs. Responsibilities include supervising all facility activities, assisting customers and officials, opening and closing the building, setting up game equipment, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and providing verbal and written reports to the Program Coordinator or Recreation Supervisor. Facility Leads also assist referees, volunteer coaches, and parents throughout game play. Sports experience is preferred but not required. This role will support our Youth Basketball (3rd – 6th graders) and/or our Lil Hoopers (1st & 2nd graders) program at Kirkland Middle School or Kamiakin Middle School. We are hiring four Facility Leads. Shifts take place on Saturdays from 8am–5pm beginning in January. Youth Basketball and Lil Hoopers Program games occur on Saturdays from January through March. Facility Leads are responsible for building oversight from 8am–5pm with a scheduled break.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to work weekends for the full duration of the season.
  • Must have or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Demonstrates strong initiative and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to manage multiple inquiries and remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
  • Proven ability to resolve conflicts and think critically to address issues promptly.
  • Attends all required staff meetings and approved training sessions to maintain program standards and safety compliance.
  • Capable of responding appropriately to safety concerns and emergency situations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physically able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and navigate ladders and/or stairs as needed.
  • Good verbal, written, communication skills are required.
  • Ability to interact courteously with the public.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated good judgement in problem solving and responding to customer needs.
  • Proficiency in standard computer software, such as Microsoft Office Suite applications Word, Excel and Outlook

Nice To Haves

  • Sports experience is preferred but not required.
  • Professional, reliable, and able to remain composed in stressful or fast-paced situations.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with players, coaches, and officials.
  • Experience working or participating in a youth sports environment.
  • Prior experience as a referee or sports official is helpful but not required.
  • May be required to possess a Washington State driver’s license and successfully clear a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), prior to hire depending on area of assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Transport sports gear and equipment between storage areas and facilities.
  • Set up and break down the facility before and after game days, ensuring the space remains clean, organized, and ready for use.
  • Promote and model positive sportsmanship and core program values.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with youth participants, coaches, officials, and parents.
  • Manage game flow and onsite logistics with professionalism and consistency.
  • Respond to participant needs and concerns using sound judgment and a customer-first approach.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and represent the department in a courteous, positive manner.
  • Communicate regularly with the Program Coordinator to report concerns, incidents, and customer feedback.
  • Ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants and enforce program guidelines.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with other staff members to support program operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
