About The Position

Coach Across America is a national nonprofit organization focused on the power of coaches to transform the lives of our nation’s most vulnerable youth, and the communities they live in, through sports. The organization is based on the premise that highly trained coaches can be among the most transformative adults in young people’s lives and inspire their success on the field, in the classroom, and in life. The Coach will serve as a coach and mentor for youth participants in Banner Neighborhoods Youth Sports programs in East Baltimore. The Coach will support sports programming throughout the year, including soccer, track, flag football, basketball, and summer camp. This position will focus on creating safe, inclusive, and supportive spaces where young people can develop through sports, mentorship, positive relationships, and meaningful community engagement. The Coach will assist with planning and leading practices, drills, games, and other program activities while serving as a positive role model for youth participants. The Coach will also support program operations and work collaboratively with Banner Neighborhoods staff, volunteers, youth, and families.

Requirements

Must meet all eligibility requirements for the Coach Across America/AmeriCorps program.
Passion for youth development, sports, and community service, particularly within the Banner Neighborhoods mission.
Ability to serve effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Dependable, responsible, and committed to completing required service hours.
Ability to pass all required background checks.
Flexibility to serve during afternoons, evenings, weekends, and summer camp programming as required by the program schedule.

Nice To Haves

Prior coaching experience is helpful but not required.
Willingness to learn and engage in coaching multiple sports.

Responsibilities

Serve as a coach and mentor for youth participants in Banner Neighborhoods sports programs, including soccer, track, flag football, basketball, and summer camp.
Assist with planning and leading practices, drills, games, and other sports activities that are age-appropriate, engaging, and supportive of youth development.
Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating leadership, sportsmanship, respect, and professionalism.
Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants, regardless of skill level.
Support the physical, social, and emotional development of youth participants through sports and positive mentorship.
Assist with program operations, including setup, breakdown, and equipment management.
Communicate effectively and professionally with program staff, volunteers, youth, and families.
Ensure that all activities follow Banner Neighborhoods and Coach Across America safety guidelines and policies.
Participate in required trainings, team meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Support summer camp programming by helping facilitate daily activities, sports programming, and enrichment experiences.
Serve as a dependable and engaged member of the Banner Neighborhoods program team.
Other duties as determined by your supervisor.
