About The Position

Spectrum is seeking a compassionate Youth Specialist for its Youth Residential Program in the Detroit area. This hands-on role supports teenage boys, including youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities, in a structured, therapeutic environment. The Youth Specialist provides stability, guidance, and a consistent presence, helping residents feel safe, develop life skills, and build confidence and independence. The posting emphasizes a part-time role with afternoon and midnight weekend shifts; weekend availability is required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Reliable transportation.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Successful MDHHS and State Police clearances.
• Physical exam within one year of hire and a negative TB test.
• Weekend availability.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily care, coaching, supervision, and emotional support.
• Build trusting relationships with residents.
• Help create routines that nurture safety, independence, and confidence.
• Serve as a positive role model, leading with patience and understanding.
• Support youth with diverse needs in a structured, therapeutic environment.
