About The Position

We are hiring a friendly, eager-to-learn Youth Services Advisor to join our Youth Services team. This role focuses on services for tweens (grades 4-6) and teens (grades 7-12). With on-the-job training, you will help youth and caregivers navigate our collection, plan and lead creative programs, and connect our community to everything the library has to offer. We are looking for someone who thrives on building relationships with tweens and teens, brings energy to every interaction, and is ready to grow with a team of skilled library professionals.

Requirements

  • Positive, welcoming communication skills
  • Proficiency using computers, tablets, and other technology to assist customers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentations
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Familiarity with classroom management principles and childhood development concepts, especially for tweens and teens
  • Undergraduate degree, or equivalent knowledge and skill in areas related to the responsibilities of this position
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively with staff and customers in alignment with Our Culture and IDEA

Nice To Haves

  • Good working knowledge of books, movies, and pop culture for kids, tweens, and teens
  • Experience working with youth and multicultural audiences
  • Experience in customer service and group instruction

Responsibilities

  • Help youth and caregivers find and check out books, movies, music, and games
  • Plan and present interactive programs for tweens and teens that inspire creativity, learning, and exploration
  • Collaborate with library professionals on a variety of Youth Services projects
  • Support outreach visits to local schools and community events
  • Staff the Kids' World desk and the Hub (our teen space for grades 7-12), connecting customers to collections, programs, and information resources
  • Create a welcoming environment where tweens and teens can explore interests, express themselves, and connect with peers
