About The Position

The Youth Program Specialist is a temporary, full-time role supporting youth programs during the school year and summer. This position is eager to learn, grow, and contribute to Neighborhood House's mission. During the school year, this position supports afterschool programming, teen programming, evening childcare, and Saturday teen programming. After-school and evening childcare programming will conclude at the end of the school year, after which the role will transition to supporting Summer Sunrise camp, teen programming, and Saturday teen programming through the summer. As part of a small, collaborative team, the Youth Program Specialist plays a key role in planning, leading, and facilitating engaging, high-quality activities for youth ages 6-18. They center participants’ experiences in all they do, bringing curiosity, creativity, resourcefulness, and a strong commitment to equity, while understanding the systemic patterns that can create barriers for families. The Youth Program Specialist thrives in fast-paced, people-centered environments and enjoys building relationships across cultures, ages, and backgrounds. Above all, they believe that young people have meaningful contributions to make in our community.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma
  • Demonstrated 2-3 years of experience working with youth
  • Have a valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a van vehicle
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing approximately 20-50 pounds as needed for program activities and setup
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to facilitate structured activities with diverse groups of youth
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills
  • Experience in nonprofit or human services organizations
  • Have a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Provide active supervision and leadership for youth ages 6-18 during all program activities
  • Plan and facilitate engaging activities, including on-site programming, field trips, and special events
  • Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and enriching environment that promotes youth engagement, learning, and positive development
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with youth and their families while supporting student participation
  • Distribute snacks and meals during programming
  • Support set-up and clean-up of program spaces and activities
  • Support family engagement events and registration processes
  • Support additional duties as assigned to ensure overall program success
  • Accurately enter participant, service, and activity data into internal databases and case management systems
  • Track participant attendance and assist with reporting and compliance documentation
  • Maintain organized digital and paper files
  • Support program operations, including maintaining clean and organized spaces
  • Uphold confidentiality and follow all organizational policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Collaborate with Youth Program staff to deliver high-quality, safe, and engaging programming
  • Maintain professional communication with staff, youth, families, and community partners
  • Attend required trainings, orientations, and staff meetings, including summer training week
  • Seek feedback and guidance from supervisors to build skills and confidence.
  • Demonstrate openness to learning and adapting to new assignments.
