About The Position

This position serves as the Youth Prevention and Information Coordinator for Maine CDC’s Office of Injury and Violence Prevention. The role involves collecting data on the health behaviors of Maine students and supporting upstream prevention programming with youth to improve health and wellbeing. A key focus is implementing the Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey (MIYHS) for data collection and analysis to inform evidence-based prevention interventions. This includes survey management, question development, recruitment, administration, data analysis, and reporting. The coordinator will provide expertise to partners on using data for interventions related to resilience, preventing tobacco and substance misuse, social and emotional learning, and addressing youth mental health needs. Collaboration with other Office of Violence and Injury Prevention members and Maine CDC programs is essential to ensure community public health interventions incorporate evidence-based principles. The role also includes creating and managing contracts with Department-funded providers, overseeing budgets and deliverables.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Public/Community Health, Health Administration, Health Sciences or Health Education; Public Administration, Government, Social Work, or a closely related field and three (3) years professional experience in the planning, development, coordination and/or evaluation of health programs or services -OR- an equivalent seven (7) year combination of education, training, and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting data on the health behaviors of Maine students.
  • Supporting upstream prevention programming with youth to improve health and wellbeing.
  • Implementing the Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey (MIYHS) to collect and analyze data.
  • Providing expertise to internal and external partners on best practices for using data to support interventions focused on building resilience, preventing tobacco and substance misuse, social and emotional learning, and addressing youth mental health needs.
  • Working closely with other members of the Office of Violence and Injury Prevention and other Maine CDC programs to ensure that community public health interventions incorporate evidence-based principles.
  • Creating and managing contracts with Department-funded providers, including oversight of budgets and deliverables.
  • Providing support and expertise for internal and state agency partners on best practice in primary prevention, shared risk and protective factors, and youth focused interventions.
  • Leading oversight and management of the Maine Integrated Youth Health Survey across all aspects of survey implementation.
  • Collaborating and aligning with the Maine Department of Education and other state agencies on survey administration and data-informed prevention initiatives.
  • Partnering with survey implementation community contractor and overseeing contract deliverables.
  • Presenting to state, community, and education stakeholders on data trends and using data to inform programming.
  • Providing technical assistance and contract support to ensure schools and community providers are engaged in effective, evidence-based programming.
  • Contributing to prevention efforts as part of the Office of Violence and Injury Prevention.
  • Analyzing proposed legislation and policy changes related to child and youth health.
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with local health departments, schools, community-based organizations, and government agencies.
  • Implementing quality improvement processes to ensure responsiveness to emerging issues and community needs.
